Remember all of the things that your parents made you wait until you were older to do? I do!
Having my own phone in my room: 8
Staying up until 9 pm: 10
Having my own TV in my room: 12 (secretly the curfew went out the window with that installation)
Staying up until 10pm: about 14
Shaving my legs: 10 (I started that one without permission.)
Dating: 16
Cell Phone: 16 (funny enough, my 14 year old brother Adam got one at the same time I did)
Driving our Jet ski: 14 (Little brother, Adam got to learn that one at the same time I did as well. That means there was a 12 year old driving a jet-ski, not the best choice ever I am sure)
Pulling our jet-ski and putting it in the water: Apparently I'm still not old enough for that one.
The list could go on and on including the things I couldn't wait to do and then suddenly realized that I should have never learned them at all, like cutting the grass. Big mistake to learn that one, our yard is huge!
I was thinking about all of these, and started to wonder if someday I will be trying to decide at what age I should let my kids join facebook. I can just imagine sitting on the bleachers watching my kid's football practice discussing with fellow parents if our kids are old enough and mature enough to start their own facebook page, and what do we think is the appropriate age for them to start one. I can also imagine fighting with my daughter as she tells me through her tears that both Cindy and Emma have one, and it's not fair because she feels so out of the loop.
What do you think? Will this become a wait-till-you're-older parent child battle? Has it already? To what age should we make our kids wait?

On Choosing A Soccer Team
Recently I have had some friends who have gotten really into soccer. They had never been excited about sports before, so I was excited just to see them getting into it. When they talk about soccer it's like they are talking another language, and they were all deciding which teams they wanted to stand behind. I thought it might be fun to join with them and also pick a team. At least then I would know what they were talking about, and so my journey began.
First I thought I would just look for one of those facebook quizzes "Which soccer team are you?" This didn't really work since the were picking teams from a specific league and my result from the quiz, Barcelona, was not in the league.
Next I read an article by a guy who was going through the same process, he too was trying to pick a team. He gave some good information, but not enough to convince me to choose a team to root for, for the rest of my life.
I then moved to pick my friend Alyssa's brain. She asked me all the things I like about a team in general. I thought about my Buckeyes and listed all the things that I admire about them. Alyssa suggested looking into Manchester United. Since this was the only one of the teams that I had heard of before, I decided to give them a try. I searched it through Swag Bucks (my very new favorite thing) and started reading about the team.
Manchester Untied just didn't feel right, and I was feeling frustrated because I was spending more time on soccer than it really deserves, and that is when it hit me. No soccer team would ever feel right, when I already cheer for the greatest sport AMERICAN football, and the greatest team THE Ohio State University. Why did I feel that I needed anything else when I had football? The answer was obvious, not to choose a team.
I mean seriously put a soccer team and a football team on a field together, and just see who comes out victorious. When the World Cup started last summer, I tried to follow it, seriously I tired. During evey single game I feel asleep. I don't need another sport to nap during when I already have Nascar.
Sorry soccer, but this is one girl who could never imagine being fan.
